There’s one thing I have been obsessed with doing lately: doing a blow-dry at home. That feeling of getting a salon experience without the hassle from the comfort of your home is truly unmatched.

One hair tool I have been obsessed with is my Dyson Airwrap, which is essentially my 6-in-1 hair tool that makes me look like I literally had a £500 blowout.

But rather than going to a salon to get an expensive haircut, wash, and blow-dry, which would probably cost £300+, girl math says you save money by buying a Dyson Airwrap and doing as many blow-drys at home (and trust me, the more you do it, you will perfect it every time.)

Here is the variation I have, comes with 6 attachment heads:

I am also obsessed with the pink version, which I would love to get someday! 🩷

What You’ll Need To Achieve A Perfect Blowout At Home

How to Get a Blowout at Home – Step-by-Step

Step 1: Wash & Prep Your Hair

Start with freshly washed hair—this is key! I use Olaplex Bond Maintenance Shampoo & Conditioner to keep my hair strong and silky. It hydrates without weighing my hair down, which is exactly what you need for a voluminous blowout.

After towel-drying, I spritz my hair liberally with Color Wow Dream Coat. This stuff is magic—it makes my hair humidity-proof and gives that glass-like shine without making it greasy.

I then blowout my hair again, then I apply my Color Wow Volumising Moose to my roots.

Step 2: Rough Dry to 80%

Using my Dyson Airwrap blowout attachment, I rough-dry my hair until it’s about 80% dry. The goal here isn’t perfection—just getting rid of most of the moisture while keeping some volume at the roots.

Step 3: Smooth & Add Volume with the Round Brush

Now comes the magic! I switch to the round brush attachment on my Dyson and start smoothing out my hair while lifting at the roots for volume.

This step sets the base for that salon-quality blowout.

Step 4: Curl with the 40mm Barrel (Face-Framing Layers First!)

Once my hair is fully dry and smooth, I switch to the 40mm curling barrel.

Step 5: Set the Curls with Rollers

To maximize volume and hold, I take each freshly curled section and roll it into a Velcro roller, securing it with a clip. This is the one I use.

Step 6: Curl the Back & Other Sections

Next, I work on the back sections of my hair using the same technique: curl with the 40mm barrel, then pin the sections into rollers.

💡 Pro Tip: Always curl the hair away from your face—it creates that big, airy, salon-style movement.

Step 7: Let it Set & Finish the Look

After about 15-20 minutes, I gently unclip and unravel the rollers, shake my hair out, and flip my head upside down for extra volume.

If needed, I run a tiny bit of lightweight hair oil or serum through the ends for a glossy finish—but nothing too heavy!

Is Hairspray Necessary?

While I personally don’t use hairspray, or use as little as possible after doing my hair, I don’t think hairspray is necessary, especially if you started with freshly washed hair, with the ColorWow products (dream coat & volumising moose), as these products help to hold curls well.

If you do want to use hairspray, a product I recommend (that holds curls and doesn’t weigh hair down) is Moroccan Oil Dry Texture Hairspray.

Why I Swear by Dyson Airwrap & Color Wow For An At-Home Blowout
